1st Response
Training for effective emergency response
When a chemical incident occurs, the Emergency Services will want to talk to someone about the product, its hazards and other response issues. They want to get their information from the supplier, distributor or trader. They will expect a rapid response to their questions in a language they can understand.
This may sound simple, but requires a carefully planned infrastructure and a guaranteed reliable response. You may feel that you know and understand these requirements - 1st Response will ensure that you do!
1st Response is a unique one-day course that has been designed and developed by Emergency Responders from the National Chemical Emergency Centre (who deal with response calls every day of the year), together with Responsible Care experts from the CIA & BCDTA and also leading Fire & Police Officers who are hazardous material specialists. There is no other course that brings together such practical and up-to-date content or provides such an insight into what to expect when attending an incident and to understand better what is expected of you.
1st Response is for:
Anyone from organisations involved in attending chemical incidents. For example:
- Industry responders
- Hauliers
- Fire
- Police
- Ambulance
- Environment Agency
- Environmental Health Officers
- Local Authority Emergency Planners
- HSE Inspectors
One day of training will provide you with:
- an overview of response arrangements in the UK (Chemsafe).
- details of the Fire Brigade and other organisations’ roles at an incident.
- typical questions asked and how to respond.
- an understanding of the needs when the response requirement escalates
- the criteria for a good first response
- a Chemical Industries Association endorsed ‘model’ for Level 1 Response.
- practical sessions examining the requirements for dealing with the response to different incidents. These sessions may include live calls to an emergency response centre and/or the NCEC.
The course will:
- prepare you and your organisation for dealing with a chemical incident
- help you understand the demands that will be made on you during an incident.
- help responders ‘talk the same language’ as the emergency services – leading to clearer understanding on both sides
- lay the foundation for dealing with more serious incidents requiring a higher level of response (Chemsafe Levels 2 and 3).
You will receive:
- A full course manual containing copies of all the day’s slides, notes and supporting material
- A range of useful publications relating to incident response
- Certificate of Attendance.
- Refreshments and lunch
The course is held several times a year at different venues around the country and it continues to be in great demand; those interested in attending a course should contact the NCEC to register their interest.
