Practical Response Training

Getting you ready for action

NCEC have teamed up with a major incident response company to give you practical hands-on training in dealing with chemical or hazardous material incidents.  From a spill in a warehouse to a bulk tanker accident, this course will equip you with the knowledge and confidence to deal with a chemical incident of any size in the safest manner possible.

Do you know.....

  • Enough about the chemicals that you transport or keep on site?
  • What personal protective equipment (PPE) you have on site?
  • If it is of satisfactory standard and correct for the chemicals you work with?
  • Are you confident enough to use it correctly in a real chemical spill?

These are the things we help you establish in the first part of the course.  But don’t worry if you don’t have the correct PPE (if any) because we can supply you with this on the day.

The second part of the course will allow you to practice using PPE to handle a mock hazmat incident.

There is also the option to discuss both on and off-site emergency planning and whether you are doing enough to meet the requirements of COMAH.  (http://www.hse.gov.uk/comah/)

Practical Response provides:

  • An understanding of chemical behaviours
  • The ability to interpret chemical information, e.g. placards, labels and safety data sheets, and the knowledge to use it to assess hazards and risks
  • The ability to determine safety aspects during a chemical incident
  • Practical hands-on session(s) involving the use of protective clothing and respirator (if required)

IMPORTANT

The practical session involves wearing a ‘splash suit’ and a respirator and may involve lifting heavy items.  We must advise that the course may not be suitable for anyone who suffers with any medical condition that might prevent them from taking part in these activities.
