Denmark and Lithuania are now accepting Annex VIII portal submissions
This July, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) published version 3.4 of the ‘Overview of Member States decisions in relation to implementation of Annex VIII to CLP Regulation (Poison Centre Notification)’. The document provides a summary of how Member States are implementing Annex VIII through ECHA’s harmonised submission portal, including whether they are ready to receive notifications from the portal. You can read the entire document here.
The biggest change is Denmark and Lithuania joining Germany and Estonia in accepting notifications through the portal.
All four countries are accepting notifications through the harmonised portal in English or their national language. There are currently no fees charged by the Member States for submissions. This means businesses can start doing their Annex VIII notifications through the portal to these Member States now. Germany is also accepting Annex VIII notifications through its existing National Notification System.
Poison centre notification deadlines under Annex VIII are as follows:
- 1 January 2021 – Consumer and professional use mixtures.
- 1 January 2024 – Industrial use mixtures.
- 1 January 2025 – For those who completed Member State notifications under the current national systems.
The January 2025 deadline is only valid for Member State product notifications that are completed on the existing national systems before 31 December 2020.
With the January 2021 deadline now just 5 months away, businesses should be giving serious consideration to how they intend to stay compliant going into 2021. Here at NCEC, we believe that the best advice we can give to our customers is to notify now and benefit from the extended deadline of 2025. There are various benefits of notifying now such as potential cost benefits and greater confidentiality. You can read more about these benefits here.
