Update your REACH dossiers urgently!

Our recent webinar poll showed that 21% of attendees had not updated their REACH dossiers! Should ECHA find a compliance failure, it could lead to problems with your REACH registration and subsequent market access. Please contact us and our experts will be happy to help you update your REACH dossiers.

To address non-compliance with dossier information requirements, ECHA and the European Commission (EC), under the REACH Evaluation Joint Action Plan, are planning on checking 30% of all registered dossiers.

By 2027, ECHA will have scrutinised all EU REACH registrations submitted before 2018.

Our chemical experts can review your dossier to identify and fill data gaps, strengthen justifications for adaptations, and confirm that all appropriate information has been gathered, to reduce the likelihood of ECHA requesting further information.

Revision to CLP for endocrine disruptors and other harmful chemicals has been proposed, and new classifications are expected to be formally introduced in early 2023

The European Commission has proposed a revision to classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures (CLP) Regulation, introducing new hazard classes for endocrine disruptors and other harmful chemicals. The revised act which introduces the new classifications is expected to enter into force early in 2023.

Where these new classifications apply you will need to update your safety data sheets (SDSs), Labels, REACH dossiers and poison centre notifications. The full implications of this new proposed act can be found here.

Identifying which substances in your supply chain will be impacted by these changes is likely to be a challenge for many organisations. Our horizon scanning tool can help to relieve the burden of this changing situation. It performs a substance inventory check and identifies whether your substances appear on any global regulatory lists. It provides the results in a clear, easy-to-read report, so that you can quickly determine the most recent status of your substances.

Defra announces new UK REACH registration submission deadlines

In response to concerns raised by stakeholders around the cost of acquiring the data to complete their UK REACH registrations, and the impact on GB businesses, the UK government has announced that it intends to introduce legislation to extend the registration submission deadlines, across all tonnage bands, by three years (subject to the consent of the Scottish and Welsh governments).

The transitional deadlines for UK REACH apply to organisations who were registrants, downstream users, or distributors under EU REACH before UK REACH was introduced. Click here for the confirmed deadlines for UK REACH registration submissions.

Ricardo is a well-established British business with close links to the UK Government and can help you to navigate the complexities of UK REACH, and significantly reduce your costs of compliance.

Supporting the agrochemical industry maintain regulatory compliance

The Farm to Fork strategy is a key part of the European Green Deal. It aims to transform how the EU’s food system produces, distributes and consumes food, creating new opportunities for consumers, farmers and the food industry. Those exporting to the EU are witnessing how the ongoing transition to sustainable food systems has been a huge economic opportunity for farmers, food processors and the food service industry.

While it can be challenging for businesses to maintain an overview of upcoming developments, those who do, have a real competitive advantage.

Whether you manufacture agricultural inputs, operate an agrochemical business, or create food and drink products, Ricardo can help you to maintain your regulatory compliance, operate safely, and reduce your impact on the environment.

Did you miss the deadline to update your EU SDSs to REACH Annex II requirements?

The deadline to update your EU SDSs as per the new REACH Annex II requirements was 31 December 2022.

Are there any costs of non-compliance?

Outdated EU SDSs are likely to cause significant supply chain issues to businesses. For example, Ricardo has been informed that a Belgian port will not be unloading products which are non-compliant with REACH Annex II. The port has been clear that there will be no flexibility, and that they will be rigidly observing the deadline for compliance.

If you have not updated your SDSs, we strongly urge you to do so at the earliest. Ricardo offers a fully outsourced and multilingual SDS authoring service, which requires minimal client input/resources to leave you free to concentrate on running your business operations. We have a team of trusted SDS experts, who already support a wide range of clients with their compliance issues, and SDS training courses for those authoring in-house.
