Programme announced for Hazmat 2019

The programme of workshops and sessions has been announced for Hazmat 2019, the premier event for hazmat professionals. This two-day event is organised by the National Chemical Emergency centre (NCEC) and will be held in Stratford-upon-Avon, UK on 15 and 16 May.

Hazmat 2019 is an essential opportunity for you to share your experiences and knowledge with like-minded professionals working in the hazmat and chemical industry.

This year’s strong list of expert speakers working in the hazmat and chemical incident industry, builds on the outstanding success of Hazmat 2018. Speakers include professionals from the fire and rescue services; Hazmat Training Ltd; Emergent BioSolutions; the Resilience Advisors Network; and the Joint Protective Services for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire police forces. The Hazmat 2019 programme includes parallel sessions enabling delegates to select topics that are most relevant to them.

For those arriving on 14 May, there will be a barbecue in the evening, offering a relaxed networking opportunity. However, before this, there will be an optional pre-conference workshop (limited numbers) on the dynamics of emotional response. This workshop will be led by our crisis management consultants and will help you to recognise stress overload; learn stress management techniques that can be used during a crisis; and how to manage the impact of stress on mental health. The workshop is based on one of our coveted training programmes for which Ed Sullivan, from the Fire Service College, said ‘ It has shown me how much of a need for this there is in UK fire and rescue service.

The first day will feature discussions on chemical nerve exposure, and the present and future challenges of operating procedures especially in light of new threats. Hands-on workshops will cover environmental protection, radiation detection, multi-agency response to a WW2 chemical warfare agent exposure, environmental hazard training and hazard categorisation. The day will end with a conference dinner providing an excellent opportunity for further networking in a relaxed environment.

The second day will feature sessions on lithium-ion batteries, responder safety from exposure to hazardous materials in the workplace and oxidisers. Day two will conclude with a summary of the weird and wonderful things in the hazmat world through a series of case studies. The day will close with a summing up of the conference.

A hazmat professional from Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service commented, ‘ It is the annual event for updates on emerging trends for Hazmat professionals.

During the conference itself, there will be an exhibition where delegates will be able to find out about the latest training, products and services available on the market, and to hear from a wide variety of partner agencies.
